Dr. Dominic Lau promises to improve the school environment
Press Statement by
Gerakan Youth Secretary General
Dr. Dominic Lau
15 May 2012
Gerakan Batu Division has visited SK Taman Koperasi Polis, Sentul on last Saturday (12 May) to have a meeting with the members of PTA and to discuss the problems currently faced by the school.
Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr. Dominic Lau who attended the meeting said that the school PTA has raised the problem about the ditches in front of the school gate are without the ditch cover and since the walkway is the necessary route to walk pass after school, therefore it is posing a dangerous threat to the students. Besides, the pedestrian bridge connected the school with the flats across the street, only the middle part of the walkway is covered with roof, while both ends are uncovered, this has left the students who are living across the street to be exposed under hot sun, and it will be more troublesome if it rains.
"As far as I am concerned, DUKE highway has stated that both ends of the walkway are not under the extent of the highway, therefore they refused to build a covered roof. For this reason, we will have a meeting with the person in charge of DUKE and the DBKL to follow up the issue, so that the problem within the perimeter of the school can be solved as soon as possible. This has been the objective of Gerakan, to give full support to all of the schools in each stream," said Dr. Dominic Lau.
Apart from this, Dr. Dominic Lau also added that Gerakan will continue to serve for the residents of Batu parliamentary constituency, not just in livelihood problems but also to contribute its part in educational issues.

In reference to the Deputy Inspector General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar's statement today that the police will not act against on those who held a "burger protest" in front of BERSIH steering committee co-chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan's home, because the protestors abided by the Peaceful Assembly Act 2011 with no infringement of privacy, Gerakan Youth Secretary General is strongly disagree with the statement by the police and would like to urge the police to be non-discriminatory, otherwise the police will only perceived as holding a double-standard in the eyes of the people and heavily suspected of being unfair.
"Those protestors who set up a burger stall in front of Ambiga's home were clearly a disturbance to the serenity of the living environment, which may also affect the residents living in the vicinity. I would like to advice those protestors to put forward their claims in a proper way, such a move that was disrupting the social stability is clearly not helping at all," said Dr. Dominic Lau.
Apart from this, Dr. Dominic Lau also added that in view of what have been underlined by the police that the protestors were legal and not an infringement to privacy, we hope that the police will be accountable to explain with much clarity, whether those protestors did applied for a permit to gather, as well as under what criterions that the police have deemed that the protestors did not break the law and also did not cause any distress to the lifestyle of others.
